In 1933, a young couple named Ted and Clara Ciesielsra moved into a 178 acre hay, wheat and dairy farm in North Tonawanda . They named their property long Acre Farm. Sal Turchiarelli and Tennis Schreckengost bought the property from Mr. And Mrs. Ciesielsra in 1965 with visions of a new 18 hole golf course.

Following remarkable renovations that turned the Ciesielsra’s huge hay and wheat barn into the main clubhouse and dining room as well as the cow barns into the golf shop, Long Acre Farm was transformed into Tan Tara Golf Club in 1968. Turchiarelli and Schreckengost (who were also owners of the 9 hole Creekside Golf Course in Tonawanda ) started Tan Tara with a nine hole course with the second nine being completed and open for play in 1972. Mr. Schreckengost was the course designer.

There have been many improvements to the course and the clubhouse over the years. Of note in 1996, 23 new bunkers were added, 10 new tee boxes, additional trees, heather and rough were also planted. An additional 501 yards was added to the length of the course as well. From 1997 to present there has been over 2 million spent on renovations and equipment for Tan Tara.
